As many as 1.9 million international visitors came to Hanoi in 2011, an increase of 11 percent over 2010, according to the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Of the visitors, 1.4 million stayed for touring the city, up 15 percent from 2010.
The city saw significant increases in the number of visitors from China , with 19 percent, Australia , 28 percent, Japan , 13 percent and the Republic of Korea , 22 percent.
Hanoi also recorded a year- on- year increase of 10 percent in domestic visitors to the city.
In 2012, it will launch various programmes to promote its tourism.
Besides, the city will also carry out activities to attract more tourists, including opening more walking streets in Hoan Kiem District, organising international tourism fairs, and holding the 11th meeting of the Council for Promotion of Tourism in Asia.
