Dear Ms. Than Mai:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help with getting us the train tickets from Hanoi to Hue, and most of all for trusting us and delivering the tickets to our hotel, which made our tight travel schedule possible.
Our trip to Vietnam was overall a positive one. Ha Long Bay is certainly one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen; the old city in Hoi An has great potential becoming a world-class tourist attraction; and citadel in Hue embodies a great deal of historic signifance, though renovation is badly needed.
Among the hotels we stayed in, we loved Hotel Saigon Morin in Hue most. The hotel itself is a valuable piece of history. Every time we walked through the hallway or sat in the garden having breakfast, we could not help but feel the history around us. And it was truly an amazing feeling.
What can be improved? Well, tours and tour guides. Tours should give tourists what they said they would. For example, we took a day tour to the citadel in Hue. The bus turned out to be a mini bus, and five people were squeezed into each row of four seats. And worst of all, the air conditioning was not in working condition. Also, at Ha Long Bay, once we got on the junk, everyone felt trapped because the dirnks were so unreasonably high that every time you ordered a drink you couldn''t help but felt being robbed. These may seem to be insignifcant, but can easily influence how tourists feel about their trip overall.
All the tour guides we had were friendly, but their English skill and historic knowledge are limited. Often times, they could not carry on a meaningful conversation beyond what they memorized about particular sites. On a long tour to DMZ, for instance, a good tour guide can tourists a lot about Vietnam, past and present.
Having said that, I am sure that everything will change for the better next time we visit Vietnam again. We have seen only the northern and central Vietnam, and we will find time to visit the sourth later.
Regards,
Mingshan Jiang
