I have been planning to write you about the trip, but we went back to
work on the 23rd and are very busy.
We enjoyed everything immensely except 2 things.
The hotel in Ho Chi Mihn was a real disappointment. Aside from the
trouble getting the room we paid for, (thanks for your help), the carpet
in the room they gave us was so filthy (stained with black spots and
just looked filthy---a good steam cleaning at least but replacement
necessary), we never took our shoes off. The shower water leaked all
around the outside of the tub so they was always pools of water on the
floor. We didn''t get water and all the clean towels daily, unless we
asked, and the internet did not work. I had to complain each day, and
finally told the man on the desk to bring in someone to fix it. It was
certainly not good. There are so many other choices on the same street,
try one of those. I think you should tell people, if that hotel
represents the quality of a 3 star hotel----to book a 4 star in HCM.
Then the driver who took us to the Mekong River stole 300 (of their
money) from us. He got pulled over by the police for passing in the
wrong lane and borrowed money from us to pay the fine. He wasted 2+
hours of our day (we didn''t get back until 7pm and left Mekong at 2pm
b/c he had to go to the police station/bank and then picked us up and we
waited at the police station). Our guide, Mr. Vu (wonderful!!!!!!!) said
the driver had to pay from his bank, but the driver did not offer us our
money back. Then we would not have that driver to take us to the airport
on Sunday. We told Vu to get our money back. Mr Vu ended up paying us
back from HIS money. This driver should be fired. He made the mistake
yet thought "us rich farangs" would bale him out AND he expected a tip.
But honestly, other than those 2 small things, We LOVED Vietnam and hope
to return and see more of it.
